About the Event
The Mothman Adventure Race is a multi-discipline off-road event that will require competitors to navigate a course via paddling, mountain biking, and trekking on the lake and surrounding woods and trails of Alum Creek State Park.
Event Details
There is a 4-hour time cutoff to gather as many checkpoints as possible. While some teams may locate all checkpoints, many will not. Race distance will vary dependent on individual route choices but rough estimates would be approximately 3-5 Miles of Paddling, 7-10 Miles of MTB, and 5-10 Miles of Trekking. It is recommended that you do not spend more than 1.5 hours on any one phase of the race. Time budgeting will be critical.
Who Can Participate
Anyone! The course is designed to be beginner-friendly and a good introduction to adventure racing. It will also challenge those more experienced as well. Extensive map & compass skills/experience are not necessary to retrieve many checkpoints but will be helpful on others. Elevation gain will be minimal, and trails/terrain will be moderately technical. But it’s your race, take on the challenge as you see fit and complete as much as you can.
Winners Determination
Winners will be determined first by the most number of checkpoints obtained followed by the fastest time as the tiebreaker. There are penalties for breaking the rules or finishing the course after the time cut-off. Checkpoints will be deducted in accordance with the announced rules.
