Tackle Snowdon up the toughest path and plunge into the clear waters of Abersoch Bay at THE ROC Wales. Covering 115k with 5,825 of total elevation gain with extraordinary views, this is the ultimate bucket list event!
The Welsh edition of THE ROC boasts an outstanding course, with the start, finish and post race entertainment on Abersoch's picturebook beach and the race turnaround point at Snowdon's summit! The course starts on Abersoch's sandy beach with a 1.5k swim in the sheltered waters of the bay, which loops back to the start point. You then head out onto the road for a 50km cycle from Abersoch into the Snowdon Massif, passing Criccieth Castle and setting a mini stage time for the CIOVITA King of Criccieth.
On arrival at Nant Gwynant (T2) you rack your bike and collect your mountain pack and head out on foot onto The Watkin Path, the most exciting and toughest route to the summit of Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon), the highest mountain in Wales. The first section is a 6k run up to the summit, with an elevation of 3,330ft and steep ascent for the final kilometre. Runners have to reach the 4k checkpoint up Snowdon before 12pm (noon) to be able to continue to the summit, otherwise you turnaround and complete the race from there (receiving a slightly different medal at the finish).
After reaching the peak, the second leg of the course involves a fast return run back down to transition (T3). After their mountain run, entrants drop their mountain packs off and get back onto the bike for the 50k return bike leg back to Abersoch, absorbing the stunning scenery as you cycle through the Welsh countryside and along the coast. The event culminates with a final beach run of 1k, allowing runners to soak in the atmosphere before crossing the finish line to a lively welcome!
