About the Aiken Trials

Beginning in 1942, the Aiken Trials provides young horses in training the opportunity to experience live racing. As the first leg of Aiken's Triple Crown, this event is held annually for three consecutive Saturdays in March and attracts upwards of 10,000 spectators.

During the event, expect five races on the program including four for two-year-olds and maidens, running distances from 1/4 mile to 4 1/2 furlongs, and one race for older horses that have previously won. Pony races will also be featured.

The jockeys, typically local exercise riders, will have their time in the spotlight after a year of hard work. Occasionally, licensed jockeys are brought in, making for exciting competitions!
