South Mountains Marathons

Join us for the South Mountains Marathons, a thrilling collection of trail races held in the stunning South Mountains State Park in North Carolina. This year, the 50K and Marathon will take place on Saturday, January 11th, while the Half Marathon is scheduled for Sunday, January 12th. Prepare for an exhilarating experience filled with steep trails, breathtaking views, and challenging climbs.

Race Details

The 50K race covers approximately 32 miles with an elevation gain of around 6,500 feet, while the Marathon spans 26.5 miles with a 5,000-foot elevation gain. The Half Marathon is 13.3 miles long, featuring a 2,500-foot elevation gain. Each course offers a mix of wide double track trails and technical singletrack, ensuring a memorable adventure for all participants.

Registration Information

Registration for the 50K is $105.07, the Marathon is $93.73, and the Half Marathon is $76.72. Please note that registration closes on January 7th at 11:59 PM ET. Refunds are available up to certain dates, and no transfers or deferrals are permitted.

Our mission is to showcase the beauty of the South Mountains and support the Foothills Conservancy in their efforts to protect this remarkable area. We aim to provide an exceptional race experience, complete with excellent aid station support and a challenging yet achievable course for all levels of trail runners.
