The Embassy of the Republic of Lithuania to the United Kingdom together with the organizations of the Lithuanian community invites all Lithuanians living in the United Kingdom, friends of Lithuania and Lithuanian schools in the United Kingdom to participate in the symbolic commemoration run "The Road of Life and Death", dedicated to honoring the heroes of January 13.
This year, we invite representatives of the Ukrainian diaspora living in the United Kingdom to join the initiative, expressing support for Ukrainians fighting for freedom and inviting to donate to the "Blue / Yellow" - a non-governmental organization that has been supporting the armed resistance of Ukraine since 2014.
On 13 January 2025, we will commemorate the thirty-fourth anniversary of the events that were tragic but matured our Freedom and strengthened our Nation. January 13, 1991 is one of the most important days on the path of Lithuania's liberation from Soviet occupation. That night, Lithuania lost fourteen citizens who defended its independence, and hundreds were injured when the Soviet army stormed the Vilnius TV tower and the Radio and Television building.
This year, we invite you to participate in "The Road of Life and Death" run on Sunday, 12 January 2025, from 10:00 am, at Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, 1A Honor Lea Ave, London E20 1DY (Timber Lodge Cafe).
The runners will have to cover a symbolic 9 km distance from the Antakalnis cemetery, where victims of the events of January 13, 1991 are buried, up to the Vilnius TV Tower. Registration is through EVENTBRITE no later than 10 January 2025. Those who are unable to register online may register on-site.
Participants are encouraged to wear Lithuanian and/or Ukrainian colors.
All ages and fitness levels are welcome. Participants will receive commemorative medals.
