Loud Thunder 50

Welcome to the Loud Thunder 50!

Presented by the Quad Cities Trail & Ultra Runners and Sun Trail Running, this event will take place on Saturday, April 19, 2025. Enjoy a low-key trail race experience on beautiful and challenging trails. Your registration fee includes race basics, custom swag, fully stocked aid stations, finisher awards, post-race food, and a donation to park maintenance.

• Distances: 50mi, 50k, and 1/2 marathon
• Location: Loud Thunder Forest Preserve, 19408 Loud Thunder Rd, Illinois City, IL
• Start Times:
• 50 Mile: 6:00 AM
• 50K: 8:00 AM
• 1/2 Marathon: 9:00 AM

Online registration only. No paper forms. No refunds or bib transfers.

Course Description:

The race course features approximately 95% trail with significant elevation gain. The 50mi includes around 6600 feet of gain, while the 50k has about 4000 feet, and the half marathon about 1900 feet. The varied terrain includes climbs and descents with stunning views of the Mississippi River.

Camping:

Campsites are available at the Horse Corral Campground for participants wishing to camp during the event. Reservations can be made through the park, and unreserved sites are available first-come, first-served.

Aid Stations:

There will be two fully stocked aid stations to support runners throughout the race.

Rules:

All runners must complete the distance they register for. Strict cutoff times will be enforced.
