MTC and Hamilton County parks are proud to present Prairie on Fire, a Backyard Ultra experience like you've never had, unless you've been with us before. 2026 is slated to be our biggest year yet with improvements to every facet of runner experience.

Backyard Ultra Concept: Our race begins at 8 am, so at 8am, you would take off to complete a 4.167mi loop in an hour. If you complete the loop, you can line up at the starting line again at 9 am to attempt a second loop of the same distance within the same time limit. If you can complete that, you can line up again at 10 am, and so on, until only one person is left standing. Even though we're continuing to push the boundaries of what's possible (with 20+ runners over 100mi in 2025), we encourage and welcome all runner experience levels as we know you'll find your new "possible".

The 2026 event is slated to take place at 8am on Sept. 12th at White River Campground and will feature a 4.167mi dirt and gravel day loop through Koteewi Park followed by a 4.167mi paved trail out and back along E 234th st (identical or very similar to last years courses). It will continue until only one is left standing.
