The Reston Masters Swim Team is pleased to announce the 38th edition of the Jim McDonnell Lake Swims. Sanctioned by Potomac Valley LMSC for US Masters Swimming, Sanction#: XXX-XXXX. The swims will be held on Sunday, May 24, 2026 at Lake Audubon in Reston, VA.

Race Information

Course Map: 1-mile open water course. Swim counterclockwise beginning at Lake Audubon Pool end. The races will be started using a rolling start.

Race Day Timeline:

• 6:00am: Check-in opens (all races)
• 7:30am: 1-Mile Line-up and Safety Briefing
• 8:00am: 1-Mile race begins
• 9:15am: 2 Mile Line-up and Safety Briefing
• 9:45am: 2-Mile race begins

Swimmers may enter both the 1-mile and 2-mile swims.

• 1-mile Race: CAT I & CAT II divisions; time limit 50 minutes.
• 2-mile Race: CAT I and CAT II divisions; time limit 90 minutes.

Temperature Restrictions: No wetsuits or heat retaining swimwear in water above 78 degrees.

Water Quality: Participants swim at their own risk. The event may be cancelled if water is deemed unsafe.

Scoring Divisions: Divided by overall, gender, five year age groups and swimwear category.

Swimwear Categories: USMS Category I (textile materials) and Category II (all other swimsuits, including wetsuits).

Eligibility: Minimum participation age is 18 by race event date. Swimmers must be registered with USMS or a World Aquatics member federation or obtain a USMS One Event registration.

Entry limit per race: Maximum of 300 swimmers.

Race Fee Schedule:

• Early-Bird Pricing: 1 Mile $100, 2 Mile $100, 1+2 Mile $140 (January 1st - January 13th)
• Regular Pricing: 1 Mile $125, 2 Mile $125, 1+2 Mile $175 (January 14th - May 18th)
• Last-Minute Pricing: 1 Mile $175, 2 Mile $175, 1+2 Mile $220 (May 19th - May 23rd)

Refunds, Transfers, and Deferrals: No refunds, no deferrals, and no selling/transfer of slots.

Awards: 1st through 3rd place for age group scoring divisions.

T-shirts: Each 1-mile or 2-mile race participant will receive one t-shirt.

Benefit: A portion of the event proceeds is donated to local charities.
