Swim Hobbs Island

Race Info

The 11th Annual Swim Hobbs Island open water swim through the Tennessee River hosted by the Team Rocket Triathlon Club (TRTC) will be held on Sunday, September 6, 2026. The 5-mile swim will begin at 8:30 am, and the 1- and 2-mile swim will begin a few minutes later in waves.

Swim Hobbs Island is entirely a fundraiser for The American Cancer Society.

Schedule of Events

• Packet Pick Up: Saturday, September 5th, 2026 12:00-6:00 PM Fleet Feet Huntsville
• Race Day Packet Pick Up: Sunday, September 6, 2026 6:30 AM – 7:30 AM at the public boat dock, 1000 Hobbs Island Rd SE.
• Mandatory Safety Meetings: 7:30 AM (Kayaker meeting at Old Madison County Marina, swimmer meeting at race start)
• 5 Mile Swim Start: 8:30 AM
• 2 Mile Swim Start: 8:45 AM
• 1 Mile Swim Start: 9:00 AM
• Awards: 10:30 AM (1 & 2 Mile), 11 AM (5 Mile)

Course Description

5 Mile Swim: Circumnavigation of Hobbs Island starting and finishing at the public boat ramp (1000 Hobbs Island Rd SE). Requires a support kayaker.

2 Mile Swim: Out and back course starting at the same public boat ramp. Not for beginner swimmers.

1 Mile Swim: Out and back course starting at the same public boat ramp.

Rules & Information

• Minimum age: 13 years.
• Wetsuit rules based on water temperature (78°F or lower: allowed, eligible for awards; 78.1°F – 83.9°F: allowed, not eligible for awards; 84°F+: not allowed).
• No fins, paddles, gloves, floatation devices, or audio devices allowed.
• Support kayakers are mandatory for the 5-mile swim and must register.
• Lifejackets are mandatory for all kayakers.
