The Barley Chase

Event Details

The Barley Chase is an annual USATF Certified 5k/10k race taking place on Sunday, October 18, 2026, at 9:00 AM. The race starts and finishes at Shortway Brewing Co. and features a scenic route through the heart of Newport, NC.

Packet Pickup

• Saturday, October 17th, 12:00 PM - 2:00 PM at Shortway Brewing Co.
• Morning of the race, starting at 8:00 AM, at the registration table located behind the brewery on Haskett St.

Awards & Giveaways

Participants will receive a t-shirt and a finisher medal. T-shirt size is not guaranteed for registrations after August 31st. Awards will be given to the overall top 3 males & females and the top 2 in each age division (14 & under, 15-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70 & above).

After Party

Adult racers (21+) will receive two bib stubs redeemable for post-run pints at a designated beer tent. Runners under 21 can redeem for sodas. Food trucks will be available on site.

Beneficiary

This race is held in conjunction with Shortway Brewing Company's anniversary party and benefits the nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization, Bread & Barley, which uses all proceeds to meet local community needs.

Registration

Online registration closes at 11:59 PM on Friday, October 16th, 2026, or when the race sells out. Early Bird Pricing is available through June 30th, after which prices increase by $5.
