The course is tentative and subject to change, but for 2025, it will more closely mirror an early format with an eastern terminus in Cold Spring. It covers jeep trails, single-track, historic estate paths, and winding single-track, both open and technical. It features significant elevation gain and loss per mile. The signature climb, Breakneck Ridge, is steep, gnarly, exposed, and beautiful. Entrants range from elite mountain runners to those content with a chill day of hiking and running. The course may be one of the most difficult trail half or full marathons you will ever complete, requiring climbing and tolerance of exposure, technical footing, and significant elevation gain and loss. The risk associated with this terrain is significant and only those seasoned and prepared should join. The course offers beautiful views with panoramic river and mountain vistas.
You can find the link to a course map and download the track files on the website at https://www.rednewtracing.com/breakneck-point.
A beautiful course with a degree of challenge that rivals any. With registration you'll get the race including aid stations, post-race food from (hopefully) Fitnell Farms, and a shirt (either a men's Patagonia Cap Cool Sleeveless or women's Patagonia Cap Cool Tank). A Trucker can be purchased as an add-on.
Portions of your entry will go toward donations made to the Hudson Highlands State Park as well as the New York New Jersey Trail Conference.
Open registration is set to 550 total between the two distances. It is estimated that 50 individuals will be pulled from the waitlist prior to race day based on entrant drops.
The event has a no refund policy regarding cancellations and for any reason. Entrants may switch distances if desired (only if the other distance is not sold out), and roll-overs may be granted to future years and including other RNR events ONLY IF notified more than 30 days out from the event. No BIB transfers.
You are welcome to informally camp with us at Settlement Camp Saturday night. It's not a formal camping area, just first come first serve on level grass and portajohns. It is an add-on during registration.
You will need your hands for climbing and possibly descending at Breakneck Point therefore we don't recommend poles.
