Charles E Davis Independence Run

Event Information

The Charles E Davis Independence Run is a Maine Running Hall Of Fame Race, elected into the Class of 2024. This event marks its 57th year and offers two options: a 7-mile run or a 4-mile walk. The event takes place on Sunday, July 5th, with a 9 AM start time.

Registration can be done online or on the day of the race between 7:15 AM and 8:30 AM at Shead HS, 89 High St., Eastport, Maine. Bib pick-up is also at Shead High School during the same hours on July 5th. All participants will be bused to their respective start lines.

The 7-mile run starts in Perry at the junction of Route 1 and Route 190, ending in Eastport along Route 190. The 4-mile walk starts on Carlow Island on Route 190 and follows the same route as the run, also ending in Eastport.

Awards will be given to the overall top 3 male and female finishers, as well as winners of age groups (10-year increments starting from under 18). The top walker will also receive an award. Finisher medals will be provided, with special awards of Raye’s Mustard for the top three male and female runners and Breakwater Bagel cinnamon buns for age group winners.

The race will be run and walked in the rain, but decisions regarding lightning will be made at race time. Bus transportation to the starting line departs from Shead HS at 8:40 AM.

Course Information

The event takes place on the right side (with traffic) of the road for safety reasons, with a police escort and ambulance support.

• 7 Mile Run: Starts in Perry, ends in Eastport.
• 4 Mile Walk: Starts on Carlow Island, ends in Eastport.

General Race Day Information

Plan for weather. Two cars can be left at the HS and Sullivan St. for transport back. The Port Authority building offers restrooms for changing shirts. Registration/Check-in: 7:30 AM - 8:30 AM at Shead High School. Online registrants will have bibs and giveaways ready; same-day registrants will need to fill out information and pay by check or cash, with an electronic option available.

Start Time: 9:00 AM. Walkers are bused to the 4-mile mark, runners to the 7-mile mark. Both start simultaneously.

Finish Line: Located on Sullivan Way, between Moose Island Marine Hardware and the parking lot across from it. Spectators and participants can use the Port Authority Building for restrooms and shelter.

Awards Ceremony: Will take place at the Port Authority Building after the last person crosses the finish line.
