Dude Peak Derby Trail Race

Runners will begin at Memory Grove Park, heading up the road into City Creek Canyon. After a short climb, they’ll transition onto the Bonneville Shoreline Trail (BST), continuing deeper into the canyon. At mile 1.8, they’ll turn left, staying on the BST and heading west toward Ensign Peak. Around mile 3, the course veers left off the BST, descending quickly toward Ensign Peak. After tagging the summit and snapping a quick photo, runners will descend the singletrack trail to the tower road west of Ensign Peak. Once on the road, they’ll settle into a steady climb toward the radio towers. By mile 6.5, they’ll pass the final tower and take the singletrack trail just past it, descending back to the BST. After a short section on the BST, runners will turn left and begin a steep, hands-on-knees climb back up to the last tower. From there, the course follows the ridgeline for the next 3 miles, leading near the summit of Dude Peak before reaching the turnaround point. Runners will then retrace their steps, eventually taking a left turn that drops them east into City Creek, followed by a steep descent into the canyon. They’ll then follow the City Creek trail back out of the canyon and cruise down to the finish at Memory Grove Park.

Note: This is a self-supported race. Runners should come prepared with their own hydration and nutrition. A water cache will be available on the tower road. This race does not access U.S. Forest Service (NFS) land. Per permitting restrictions, runners will not summit the actual peak. Instead, the turnaround point is located before the NFS boundary to ensure compliance with land use regulations.

• Race day registration is available before the race, pending the runner cap.

Important Information

• Parking: Runners please park along East Capitol Blvd. and walk down to the start at Memory Grove Park.
• Bib Pick-up: Friday June 19th @ SHP (Sugar House Park) between 4:00 PM and approximately 7:00 PM. A shakeout run starts around 6:00 PM. Bibs can also be picked up on race morning.
• Cut off Time: 2:00 PM (7 hour total race time).
• Restrooms: Available at Memory Grove and Ensign Peak Trailhead.
• Aid Stations: A water cache will be available near the summit of Dude Peak, but this is not a full aid station. This is a cupless event, so bring your own container.
• Dogs: Trail Dogs are welcome! Keep them on a leash and clean up after them.
• Crew Access: Ensign Peak is the best option for crew access.
• Cancellation Policy: No refunds. Bibs can be transferred to a friend.
