About the Event

Join us on Saturday, May 18, 2024, for the 1st Annual "End the Stigma: Mental Health Awareness" 5K Run/Walk, hosted by Sound Community Services, Inc. This event will take place at Winthorp Magnet Elementary School in New London, CT.

At Sound Community Services, Inc., our mission is to inspire hope and empower our diverse community to find healing and growth. We believe that mental health is just as important as physical health, and we want to raise awareness about the prevalence of mental illness in our society.

Did you know that more than 1 in 5 adults in the U.S. live with a mental illness? Additionally, over 1 in 5 youth between the ages of 13 and 18 have a seriously debilitating mental illness. These statistics highlight the urgent need to break down the barriers surrounding mental health and encourage individuals to seek help.

Regular exercise has been shown to have a positive impact on mental health stability and symptom improvement. By participating in this 5K Run/Walk, you can not only support a great cause but also take a step towards improving your own mental well-being.

The course for the "End the Stigma: Mental Health Awareness" 5K is 3.1 kilometers long, and participants of all fitness levels are welcome to join. Whether you choose to run or walk, your presence at this event will help raise awareness and end the stigma surrounding mental health.

Registration for the event is now open, and prices for the "End the Stigma: Mental Health Awareness" 5K are as follows:

- Individual Registration: $25

- Team Registration (4 members): $80

All participants will receive a race t-shirt and a finisher medal. Additionally, there will be awards for the top finishers in each age category.
