Glacier Ridge Ultramarathon and Trail Race

Race Overview

The GRT offers four events from which participants can choose… 20 Mile Trail Run / Endurance Hike: come out and give the trails a whirl! 50K Ultramarathon 50 Mile Ultramarathon 50 Mile 5-person Relay: have some fun with family/friends/running pals/corporate associates

The race courses (including 5-person relay) are out-and-back style courses. The 20 Mile and 50K courses largely follow the blue-blazed Glacier Ridge/North Country Trail between in Moraine State Park and the Jennings Environmental Education Center near Slippery Rock, PA. The Glacier Ridge Trail is a local designation for that part of the more extensive North Country Trail system that passes through Moraine State Park.

Race Schedule

Friday Location: Moraine State Park, McDanel’s Boat Launch, Pavilion #7. Runners who pick up their bib on Friday do not need to check in on race day.

• 4:00 – 7:00 PM – Packet pick-up @ Moraine State Park, McDanel’s Boat Launch, pavilion #7
• 6:00 PM – Race briefing @ Moraine State Park, McDanel’s Boat Launch, pavilion #7, if weather permits

Saturday, Race Day Location: McDanel’s Boat Launch

• 4:45 AM – 5:45 AM – Begin runner check-in and packet pick-up.
• 5:30 AM – Cut-off for drop bags (50-mile runners only)
• 5:45 AM – Cut-off for 50-Mile and Relay Team runner check-in. (Minimum one team member)
• Starting at 6:00 AM – 50-Mile Race and 5-Person Relay Start
• Starting at 7:00 AM – 50K Race Start
• Starting at 8:00 AM – 20 Mile Race Start
• Noon: Intermediate Cutoff for 50K and 50 mile runners @ Jennings Aid Station.
• 3:00 PM – Cut-off for 50-Mile and 5-Person Relay runners @ North Country Club Road Aid Station (Inbound, Mile 32)
• 4:00 PM – 20 Mile Race Finish cut-off
• 5:00 PM – 50K Race Finish cut-off
• 5:00 PM – Cut-off for 50-Mile and 5-Person Relay runners @ Upper 528 Aid Station (Inbound, Mile 40.7)
• 8:00 PM – 50-Mile and 5-Person Relay Race Finish cut-off

All awards will be given at the time of finish for all races.

Crew

Crews are permitted for runners in the 50K and 50 Mile individual events only. Crews may meet their runners only at established aid stations (Upper 528, Jennings, North Country Club Road) and may only render assistance within 100 yards of those aid stations. Crews may be provided specific areas to stage and support their runner(s). Crews are responsible for their own food and drinks. Race management, sponsors, and volunteers are not responsible for lost or injured crews. Crews must abide by posted speed limits. You will have more than enough time to get from one aid station to the next ahead of your runner! Parking availability should not be an issue at the Jennings and North Country Club Road aid stations. Due to the configuration of the course, the Upper 528 aid station will see much more runner traffic than the others. Unfortunately, this location is also most limited in parking. Parking will be available along the road to the Upper 528 aid station (Boat Launch).

Runner Swag

All finishers (including each relay team member) will include a finishers medallion. Trophies go to 1st place finishers (male and female) in each race distance, including a trophy to EACH team member of the 1st place 50-Mile Relay team. All 50Milers receive a ¼ zip technical long-sleeved run shirt. All 50K’ers receive a technical long-sleeved shirt. All 20 Milers receive a technical short-sleeved shirt. All 50 Mile Relay Team members receive a technical short sleeved shirt.
