About the Event

Last Man Standing Lake Placid

Last Man Standing Lake Placid is a backyard ultra race held on the pristine, wooded trails at Mt. Hovenberg in Lake Placid, New York. Based on the original Backyard Ultra format created by Lazarus Lake, the rules are simple—but finishing is anything but. You must complete one 4.167-mile loop every hour on the hour. Finish a loop early? Great—rest, refuel, stretch, panic, question your life choices—just be back in the corral before the next bell rings. The moment you fail to start a loop on time, you’re out. Some show up to win. Most show up to find out what they’re made of. Whether your goal is 2 loops or 40, this event is about going further than you thought possible. The Last Man Standing course is as inviting as it is challenging. Those who are new to trail running and the backyard ultra format may find themselves completing new personal best distances. Trail veterans will push against their toughest limits and break through them!

Race Giveaways: Shirts and Medals (Updates Coming Soon)
NEW 2026: Award Ribbon Sliders (Photo Below) that attach to the Run Medal Ribbons for hitting Ultra Levels (50k, 50 Mile, 100K, and 100 Mile)

Awards will be given for Overall Champion, Male/Female Overall, Masters Male/Female, Grand Masters Male/Female (NEW 2026)

The Backyard Ultra Format: The Rules Are Simple
The course is a 4.167-mile (6.706 km) loop
A new loop starts at the top of each hour
Participants must complete each loop within the hour to continue
Runners are eliminated if they fail to complete a loop in time or choose not to start the next loop
The last person to complete a loop is declared the overall winner

Last Person Standing Challenge
Complete each 4.167-mile loop within 60 minutes to continue. A new loop starts at the top of each hour.

Set Your Own Challenge
While the last runner standing wins the overall championship, you're welcome to participate according to your own goals. Many runners choose to complete a specific number of loops rather than competing for the last-person-standing challenge. You'll earn recognition based on your achievement.
