Popple Shoot Trail Races

Welcome to the Poppleshoot Trail Races put on by “Big Slo Running”. We are excited to have you join us in Northern Wisconsin for a great day of running and comradery! Net proceeds will be donated to local charities that serve the local community.

The races will be run over a variety of surfaces/terrain including; flat public ATV trail (Wild Rivers Trail), single lane ATV trails and county roads (paved and dirt). While there are some rolling hills, primarily when on the single lane ATV trails, total elevation gain and loss is minor resulting in a fairly easy and potentially fast course. This is a great event to test the results of your speed work training and is also a great tune-up for many of the summer marathons and ultra marathons. Due to the generous 15 hour finish cutoff (87K and 62K) these races are an excellent choice for your first ultra.

All 4 races will start and finish at the Wild River Campground located in Minong, Wisconsin.

Additionally, we are officially a "Trail Sisters" approved race.

Packet Pick up: Friday, May 8th, 4:00 pm - 7:30 pm at the Minong Trail Club. Race day packet pick up available.

Course Description

87K Race: Starts 6:30 am. Single large loop with an additional smaller single loop. Surfaces include Wild Rivers Trail (crushed gravel), paved county roads, dirt/gravel county roads, and single lane ATV trails. Finish cutoff: 9:30 pm (15 hours). Aid station cutoff at Hall Road (mile 42.3) of 12 hours (6:30 pm).

62K Race: Starts 6:30 am. Single loop course with similar surfaces to the 87K. Finish cutoff: 9:30 pm (15 hours).

25K Race: Starts 7:30 am. Out and back course on Wild Rivers Trail and single lane ATV trails.

10K Race: Starts 9:00 am. Mostly a single loop with one short out and back section on Wild Rivers Trail and county roads.

Rules

1. No pacing a fellow runner along the course.
2. No external music playing along course from runners.
3. Please no littering.
4. Smile and have fun.

Awards

Awards for top male and female runners in each distance: Overall, Open (39 and under), Masters (40-49), Grand Masters (50+).

Aid Stations

Aid stations will be stocked with food and drinks. Distance between aid stations varies.

Volunteer Information

Volunteers are needed for photography, aid stations, packet pickup, course marking, and more. Contact Gaylene or Dan for details.

Lodging

Lodging options include the Wild River Trail Inn, motels/hotels in nearby towns (Hayward, Superior, Spooner, Rice Lake), and campgrounds.

Emergency/Medical

Hospitals are located in Hayward, Spooner, and Superior (30-60 minutes away).
