Savage Gulf Marathon

The Savage Gulf Marathon is an extremely challenging trail race, considered by some to be the hardest marathon in the U.S. This event is coordinated by HardWin Adventures and the Tennessee Park Rangers Association, with proceeds supporting training scholarships for State Park Rangers.

Event Details

• When: March 28, 2026
• Marathon Start Time: 8:00 AM CST
• 25k Start Time: 9:00 AM CST
• Where: Savage Gulf Park (Specific race start location provided a week before the event)
• Race Limit: 200 registrations

Courses

• Marathon: 26.2 miles of rugged, technical terrain with steep descents and climbs, streams, and bluff edges. Requires prior completion of a marathon or longer race.
• 25k (15 miles): A shorter, challenging option suitable for anyone.
• Ruck Division: Available for both Marathon and 25k, involving walking/hiking with a weighted pack. Weight requirements vary by participant weight.

Qualification & Safety

• Marathoners must have completed a marathon or longer race previously.
• A 5-hour cut-off is in place at mile 18 (1:00 PM CST). Runners not reaching this point will be escorted to the finish line.
• All participants must follow COVID/social distancing protocols.

Savage Gulf is a 14,357-acre State Natural Area in Tennessee, known for its spectacular natural rock formations, virgin timber, and extensive trail system.

Proceeds benefit the Tennessee Park Rangers Association (TPRA), which promotes professionalism, improves working conditions, and supports training programs for Tennessee State Park Rangers.
