About the Event

Event Overview

The Hourglass: Peninsula is a beginner-welcoming, last-person-standing style event that blends challenge, community, and controlled chaos. Participants will be tested in a 'you vs. you' format, leaving inspired and proud of their accomplishments.

Date, Time & Location

The event takes place on April 18, 2026, at Soldotna Creek Park (Soldotna River Park) in Soldotna, AK. Check-in opens at 8:15 AM, followed by a race brief at 8:45 AM, and the start time at 9:00 AM.

The Hourglass Format

The format involves repeating a category's loop as long as you can finish within a shrinking time period. Round 1 starts with 30:00, and each subsequent round decreases by 1:00 until the last person is standing in each category. Participants must finish their required work before the time cap expires to earn their next start.

Course Loops & Categories

  • Run: A 2-mile loop each round.
  • Ruck: A 1-mile loop each round with a weighted pack (Men: 35 lb, Women: 20 lb).
  • Hybrid Athlete: A mix of running and strength, completing a 2-mile run loop plus 10 burpees each round.
  • Loaded Carry: An 800m sandbag carry each round (Men: 60 lb, Women: 45 lb).

Youth Division (Ages 8–11)

The Youth Division follows the exact Hourglass format with scaled distances and loads, designed to develop grit and confidence. Youth standards include:

  • Run: 1 mile per round.
  • Ruck: 0.5 mile per round (recommended weight: 10–15 lb, max 20% of bodyweight).
  • Hybrid: 1 mile + 5 burpees per round.
  • Loaded Carry: 400m sandbag carry per round (recommended weight: 20–30 lb, max 35% of bodyweight).

Awards

Awards are given to the top finisher in each category. The top 5 participants in each category receive an invitation to compete at the “Ultimate Hourglass” in Anchorage, Alaska, in September, battling for a cash prize and bragging rights.

What to Bring

Participants are recommended to bring trail shoes, water/electrolytes, weather-appropriate layers, and gloves (optional for sandbag events). Ruckers should bring their own pack and weights.

FAQ Highlights

The event is beginner-friendly, and results are based on the number of rounds completed. Registrations are final, but transfers to another participant are allowed prior to the event.
