United Way 5k on the Runway

Race Info

The United Way 5K on the Runway is scheduled for Saturday, April 25, 2026. This event is perfect for participants ages 8 and older who can complete a 5K in 60 minutes or less. The course is flat and fast, following the taxiway parallel to the main runway. Proceeds support the United Way of Central Virginia.

There is a 700-person and 60-minute time limit for the event.

5K RUN & WALK

The 5k is open to all ages 8 & older and will be professionally timed. The start time is 5:00 PM at the General Aviation Terminal, 982 Airport Road, Lynchburg, Virginia.

TIME LIMIT

Participants must reach 2.5 miles by 38:00 (15:00 / mile pace) or may be removed from the event. Strict time limits are enforced.

Stroller / Pet Policy

Due to airport restrictions, no strollers, skateboards, rollerblades, bikes, or pets are allowed on the airport taxiway.

Headphone Policy

For safety reasons, headphones are not permitted on the course.

• $30: Wed. Dec. 31st - Thurs. Jan. 1st (New Year's Promotion)
• $35: Fri. Jan. 2nd - Mon. Mar. 16th
• $40: Tues. Mar. 17th - Mon. April 20th
• $45: Tues. April 21st - Friday, April 24th

NO RACE DAY REGISTRATION. Registration fees are non-transferable & non-refundable.

Family Pricing: Families of 4 or more save $5.00 per registration from January 2nd thru April 24th.

Lynchburg Road Runners Club Member Discount: $5.00 discount for current members (Jan. 2nd - April 4th).

Assisted Participant Information: Assisted participants with disabilities are welcome. Both the assisted athlete and the pusher must register and sign the waiver, but will each only pay half price. Please contact the race for more information.

Note: No race day registration. Registrations will stop once the 700-person cap is reached.

AWARDS

Finisher medals to all official 5K finishers! Awards for top 3 Overall Male/Female, Top Master (40+) Male/Female, and top three in each age/gender category.

LYNCHBURG ROAD RUNNERS RACE SERIES

This event is race #5 of the 2026 Lynchburg Road Runners Spring Race Series.

RACE SWAG

All participants receive a custom-designed t-shirt (register by April 2, 2026, to guarantee your shirt). Finisher medals, door prizes, and post-event food and entertainment are included.

SPECTATOR INFORMATION

Spectators are allowed entry to a special viewing area for $5 for the 2026 race. Check-in will be ONLY on day of between 4-4:30pm. Post-race food and awards ceremony are included. Door prizes are not included.

PARKING

Parking is located at the corner of Airport Road and Hanger Road. Follow signs to parking. Not accessible from commercial aviation parking.
