The Black Canyon Ascent is a challenging 6-mile point-to-point race that gains nearly 2,000 vertical feet over a steady climb up Colorado Highway 347. The course is run on a two-lane paved road. Participants must stay on the left side of the road for their safety. Two aid stations are available along the route. The finish line is at the South Rim’s amphitheater.

Important Dates:

• Early bird pricing is valid through March 31st.
• Last day to register is May 14th (or whenever the race sells out).
• Register by 11:59 p.m. April 12th to receive an official technical race shirt.

Logistics:

• No Start-Line Parking: Mandatory shuttle service from Montrose to the start line and back.
• Drop bags may be left at the start line and will be waiting at the finish line.

Since 1977, the Black Canyon Ascent has been a flagship event for the San Juan Mountain Runners and benefits the Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park.
