The Brain Injury Awareness 5K Run and 1 Mile Family Walk is an annual event presented by Ohio State's Chronic Brain Injury Program and Dodd Rehabilitation Hospital. Hosted by the undergraduate student organization Buckeyes Raising Awareness in Neuroscience (BRAIN), this event aims to raise awareness and support for brain injury survivors.
Participants can choose between two courses: the 5K Run/Walk and the 1 Mile Family Walk (Untimed). The 5K course covers a distance of 5 kilometers, while the 1 Mile Family Walk covers a distance of 1 mile. Prices for both courses range from $30.00 to $35.00.
All proceeds from this event directly benefit brain injury survivors, including through the NeuroNights program. NeuroNights is a joint initiative between The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, The Ohio State University Chronic Brain Injury program, and BRAIN, providing comprehensive communal and wellness support for brain injury survivors.
Last year's race proceeds were used to make a $500 donation to Dreams on Horseback, a therapeutic foundation. Additionally, $1800 was committed to funding fitness scholarships in partnership with Ohio State Rehabilitation facilities and their "NeuroWell" program. The group also provided $1000 to the CBI program to fund Travel Awards for students conducting brain injury research.
