The Natchez Trace Trail Run

The Natchez Trace Trail Run is an excellent introduction to trail racing and a strong choice for runners tackling their first trail marathon or first 50-mile race. The course rewards smart pacing, steady effort, and attention to fueling. Long stretches of uninterrupted trail allow runners to settle in and focus on execution, while the cumulative elevation and rugged sections ensure the distance is fully earned. For experienced runners, the course offers an opportunity to run consistently and efficiently. For first-time ultra athletes, it provides a setting that allows you to learn the rhythms of longer trail racing without overwhelming complexity. This race also typically sells out, often well before race weekend. If this event is on your calendar, early registration is strongly recommended.

Distances & Start Times

  • 50-Miler: Out-and-back. Start: 6:00 AM CST
  • Marathon: One-way (bus transport provided). Bus departs: 7:00 AM CST
  • 13-Mile Run: One-way (bus transport provided). Bus departs: 9:00 AM CST
  • Ruck Divisions: One-way (bus transport provided). Bus departs: 10:00 AM CST

Participant Cap: 150 runners total

HardRuck Divisions (Updated for 2026)

In 2026, ruck participants will compete in two separate divisions, recognizing the different ways weight is carried and how it impacts performance.

  • Rucking Division: Traditional rucking using a backpack or rucksack, with the weight carried behind the body’s center of mass. Weight Requirements (Dry Weight): Over 150 lbs bodyweight: 20 lbs; Under 150 lbs bodyweight: 10 lbs.
  • Weighted Vest Division: Weight carried in a vest that distributes load evenly around the torso, keeping the weight closer to the body’s center of gravity.

Ruck Rules: Mandatory weigh-in 30 minutes before race start. No weigh-in = no result / no patch. Approved weights: Steel ruck plates, Weight vest blocks, Bumper plates, Other clearly stamped weights. Weight may not be removed or reduced during the event. Random checks may occur on course or at aid stations. Honor system applies—race honestly.

Cutoffs

  • 1:00 pm - 50-mile turnaround cutoff (23ish mi)
  • 7:00 pm - Cutoff time to make it past the starting point (46ish mi) to head back out on the last 3.5 miles
