About the Event

After the classic ride at the Cycling World event, we offer you on August 10, 2024, as part of the legendary Düsseldorf cycling event 'Rund um die Kö,' another round for all friends of classic racers. The race, first held in 1968 on Düsseldorf's Königsallee, has become a true classic in the racing circuit and is a perfect setting for our timeless racers. Enjoy a delightful ride through the beautiful landscape around Düsseldorf. Participation is open to all bike enthusiasts with classic road bikes, following the guidelines of our Italian colleagues: exposed brake cables, toe-clip pedals, and downtube shifters.

As we always ride for a good cause, we aim to use the proceeds for the 'World Bicycle Relief' project. Here, bicycles made in Africa under the brand 'Buffalo Bike' are provided to needy families. More information and a video can be found at the World Bicycle Relief website.

Get ready for:

  • A delightful route (approx. 70KM) around Düsseldorf
  • Paved paths with no significant inclines
  • Guided ride in a peloton at a relaxed pace
  • A leisurely break
  • Coffee and cake at the end of the tour in the courtyard of Schicke Mütze

Additional Information:

  • When: Departure on August 10, 2023, at 11:00 AM. Meeting from 10:30 AM.
  • Where: Schicke Mütze, Oststr. 119 Hinterhof, 40210 Düsseldorf
  • Who: Participation is limited to 40 riders.
  • What to bring: Classic road bikes with toe-clip pedals and downtube shifters
  • Cost: Tickets for this ride cost €18. Proceeds go 100% to World Bicycle Relief, at least €10 per ticket.

We at Schicke Mütze organized the first classic rides in the Düsseldorf area fourteen years ago and were among the first in Europe, alongside our colleagues from Retro Ronde in Flanders and Eroica in Tuscany, to bring our love for the old treasures of cycling history to the streets through rides. Following the example of the Italian Strade Bianche, we often enjoyed a gravel section, which led to comments from 'normal' cyclists about our poor roads. Today, the fun is called Gravel and has conquered the world.

Whether our annual rides as part of the bike fair in Rommerskirchen, trips to Eroica in Gaiole, or 'Allez, allez,' one of the official events of the Grand Départ in Düsseldorf, our history with downtube shifters and toe-clip pedals is long and far from over. We look forward to relaxed rides with you and your classic racers.

Disclaimer:

By booking and participating, the following rules are accepted:

Insurance / Requirements:

  • Each participant rides at their own risk. There is no accident insurance provided by the organizer. Each participant should insure themselves according to their own requirements.
  • Helmets are mandatory. Everyone is responsible for a technically sound bike.

Ride Rules:

  • Choose the distance to the leading rider so that the group is recognizable as a group for other road users (important at intersections/roundabouts) - always close gaps.
  • If the speed is too fast for a participant, shout 'SLOWER.'
  • Slower riders should ride behind the group leader so that they are 'in view' and can adjust the pace.
  • Indicate changes in direction and hazardous spots in advance with hand signals, instead of hand signals, verbal signals may also be given, but hand signals are preferred (visibility for following traffic!)
  • Pass on hand signals to the following traffic (be proactive - DO NOT rely on the rider behind you!)
  • Avoid sudden braking maneuvers.
  • In case of defects or lost items, the affected rider should alert the group by shouting about the situation (NO abrupt braking!)
  • Carry a spare tube, pump, and a mini tool. This also means adequate lighting for rides in the dark.
