AFCEA Central Maryland Race for Excellence - 5K & Family Fun Run/Walk

The 19th Annual AFCEA Central Maryland 5K & Family Fun Run/Walk Race for Excellence will be held on Saturday, April 18th, 2026, starting at 9:00 AM EDT. A virtual option is also available.

This event is organized by the AFCEA Central Maryland Chapter (AFCEA-CMD), a non-profit membership association dedicated to promoting STEM education and awarding scholarships to qualified students and teachers. The race benefits the AFCEA's Central Maryland STEM Scholarship Fund.

Join over 1,000 participants and spectators for this family-oriented community event. All activities will take place in Columbia, MD.

• Date: Saturday, April 18th, 2026
• Start Time: 9:00 AM EDT (5K), 9:05 AM EDT (Family Fun Run/Walk)
• Location: Leidos, 6841 Benjamin Franklin Drive, Columbia, MD 21046 US
• Virtual Option: Available, with race completion window from April 18th to April 19th, 2026.

Packet Pickup:

• Thursday, April 16th: 12 PM - 4 PM at Charm City Run Columbia (7090 Deepage Drive, Columbia, MD 21045)
• Friday, April 17th: 3 PM - 6 PM at Charm City Run Columbia (7090 Deepage Drive, Columbia, MD 21045)
• Race Day: Onsite starting at 7:30 AM

Race Day Schedule:

• 7:30 AM: Same Day Registration/Late Check-in
• 8:15 AM - 8:45 AM: Warm Up and Announcements
• 9:00 AM: 5K Race Starts
• 9:05 AM: Family Fun Run/Walk Starts
• Approx. 10:00 AM: Awards Ceremony

Post-Race Party:

Pub Dog on Stanford Blvd in Columbia. Runners receive one wristband for entry.

Amenities:

• T-shirts guaranteed for registrations by March 31st, 2026.
• Water on the 5K course.
• Light breakfast provided after the 5K.

Awards:

Top three male and female finishers overall, top finishers in age groups, and team awards (largest team, fastest team).
