Join Finding The Fells for an exhilarating trail run exploring the stunning landscape of Mam Tor, The Great Ridge and Peveril Castle. Our experienced guide will lead you along this scenic route, showcasing the beauty of the Dark Peak. Whether you've got experience as a trail runner or just starting to leave the tarmac, this event is a great confidence builder.
Ideal for: any runners capable of running the full distance (this event isn't aimed at beginner runners). Pace will be sociable with plenty of pausing to admire the views.
Distance & Elevation: 8.3 miles / 1,500ft
Terrain: Flagstones, compacted dirt, mud, wet rock.
Required kit: off road/grippy running shoes essential, along with buff, waterproof jacket, snacks, water and any personal meds and running pack. Extra long sleeve layer and hat/gloves advised. See https://findingthefells.co.uk/requirements-equipment/ for more details.
Route description: Starting from Blue John Cavern we’ll head up to the summit of Mam Tor via its western staircase and then follow the Great Ridge eastward down to Hollin’s Cross before a steep climb to Back Tor then on to the quieter end of the ridge at Lose Hill. We’ll then head downhill following the lower level trails into Castleton before passing around the back of Peveril Castle to ascend the rocky gulley of Cavedale before circling back to the start.
Meeting: 8:45am – should be plentiful parking at this time by Blue John Cavern or on Sheffield Road. Meeting at the small cafe hut/bus stop outside Blue John Cavern. What 3 Words location: ///gossip.drums.handsets
