Description: Prairie Pedal is an annual fall fundraising event for the Macon County Conservation Foundation. All proceeds support natural areas and wildlife in Macon County, Illinois. Enjoy a 20-mile, 40-mile, or 62-mile ride through quiet country roads and have a chance to discover the vibrant prairie grasses, wildflowers, and diverse wildlife as we ride to support local natural areas and wildlife! After the ride, enjoy a delicious chili lunch (with vegetarian option), drinks, and an assortment of refreshments. All routes begin and end at Rock Springs Conservation Area, 3939 Nearing Lane, Decatur, IL. There will also be pickle shots available at rest stops and Rock Springs Conservation Area for $1 each. Register on Active.com, through our website, or in person on the day of the event. Signup by Saturday, August 30, for a discounted registration fee of $35/person. Registration is $40/person after August 30. Online registrations close at 11 am CT on Friday, September 26, but you may still register after that in-person at the event.

Event Start Times:

  • 7 am – 9 am for the 40 and 62-mile rides
  • 7 am – 10 am for the 20-mile ride

Lunch begins at 10:30 am and ends at 2 pm. Riders must complete their routes by 1 pm. All riders must wear a bicycle helmet and parental supervision is required for children under age 18. The ride takes place on public roads where other motorists are present. Your Prairie Pedal registration fee includes a gift, at least one well-stocked rest stop along each route, and a delicious lunch. Support and Gear (SAG) vehicles will be available to help riders in need of assistance. Priority will be given to riders in emergency situations due to illness, injury, or irreparable breakdowns. This year's routes will be announced in our event page on the Macon County Conservation District's Facebook page. Join us as we ride for natural areas and wildlife!
