Join us for the first-ever Race for the Underdogs 5K at beautiful Lake Padden in Bellingham, Washington on Sunday, August 17 at 8:30am.

Who we are
Happy Tails Happy Homes is a nonprofit animal welfare organization dedicated to protecting and serving the well-being of animals and fostering positive relationships between people and animals. We are an at-home foster program: no shelters, no offices, and no paid staff. All of the money donated to HTHH goes directly to our animals. We specialize in saving the underdogs, those with medical or behavioral challenges that need additional support and a second chance.

Directions to the Race

From I-5 Northbound (from Seattle): Take the N. Lake Samish Exit 246 and turn left (north) at the stop sign. Drive approximately 2.5 miles to the East Lake Padden entrance. Turn left and follow the road and HTHH signs to the playground area.

From I-5 Southbound: Take the Samish Way Exit 252 and turn left to cross over I-5 at the light. Turn right at the next light onto Samish Way. Follow the road for 2.5 miles until the East Lake Padden sign (it will be the second sign for Lake Padden). Turn right and follow the road and HTHH signs to the playground area.

Course description

The course consists of one 5K lap counterclockwise around the lake on grass and trails, starting by the picnic shelter (east entrance). The course is mainly flat and over half wooded, with one brief steep upgrade and three rolling hills all in the woods on the southwest side of the lake. The course for this event follows the Primary Trail loop (minus Padden Gorge).
