About the Event

The Underground Railroad FreeWalk takes participants on a historical journey, retracing the steps of those who moved through Philadelphia seeking freedom. This guided walking event lasts for approximately 9 hours and 30 minutes and covers a distance ranging from 6 to 20 miles.

  • Start Point: Love Park, 16th and JFK, near Suburban Station
  • Finish Point: Chestnut Hill East Station or Love Park
  • Terrain: Paved and gravel paths
  • Difficulty: Ranges from beginner (short loop) to advanced (full length)

During the event, you will visit significant historical landmarks related to the Underground Railroad, including the Underground Railroad Museum, and learn about the local abolitionist movement.

Highlights of the Tour Include:

  • Octavio Catto Memorial
  • Paschall Alley
  • St Georges Church
  • Arch Street Wharf
  • Liberty Bell
  • And many more!

Complete the short loop or extend your journey with a visit to the museum (entrance fee not included), and consider stopping for lunch along the way. Be sure to return to the start point by train.
