Vertical Mile Challenge

Event Details

The 11th Annual Vertical Mile Challenge is set for June 21, 2025. Participants can choose between two race options: the Vertical Mile and Half Vertical Mile. Both races will begin at 8:00 a.m. at the Rocky Face Mountain Recreational Area, located at 3451 Rocky Face Church Road, Hiddenite, NC 28636.

Registration

Registration is $40 (plus fees) for either distance, and registration closes on Thursday, June 19 at 11:59 PM ET. There is no race-day registration, and the race is limited to the first 175 people who register.

Aid Station

An aid station will be available at the base of the mountain near the start/finish line, providing essential items like water, Gatorade, soft drinks, and snacks. Additional water will be available at the top of the "Stairway to Heaven" and along the course.

Logistics

Participants are encouraged to bring a water bottle. The course consists of a nearly 2-mile loop, with 8 laps for the Vertical Mile and 4 laps for the Half Vertical Mile. After the start/finish line, runners will encounter both paved and trail sections.

Awards

Awards will be presented to the Overall Male and Female finishers, as well as for the fastest first lap in each category. Runners completing the Half Vertical Mile are also eligible for awards in their respective category.

Packet Pick-Up

Packet pick-up will take place on race morning from 6:30 AM to 7:45 AM at the event location.
