About the Event

Rip Swim and Race February 7, 2026

Point Nepean to Point Lonsdale - 3.5km

Begin your adventure now! "The Rip" is a thrilling 3.5km swim across the entrance to Port Phillip Bay, the gateway to Melbourne, Australia. Steeped in history, it is one of the most notorious and thrilling waterways in the world. You can swim it safely with us.

  • Solo option: Simply enter and swim at your own pace.
  • Team option (up to 6 in a team): Gather a group of friends and swim together.
  • Race option - no wetsuits: Are you a fast swimmer who wants to race? Go for it!

Qualifying to swim - must be completed by 31 December 2025
We want you to be safe and enjoy your crossing. So, we will need you to do a qualifying swim under our guidance. If you can't make it, you must supply evidence to show you are ready to swim (3km in under 66 minutes in non-tidal open water).

Wetsuits are optional
The water temperature is likely to be about 17 degrees Celsius and you will need to be well-acclimatised to the cold if you choose to swim without a wetsuit. However, you are welcome to wear a wetsuit.

Distance & time
Distance: 3.5km (as the crow flies!)
